Dear Santa Monica City Councilmembers:

Santa Monica has long cast itself as a champion of small businesses and a beacon of sustainable and smart development, which is why millions of people a year flock here. Yet the process for small businesses to lease – and maintain – commercial spaces is broken and this dysfunction is currently playing out in what is happening to SMTS.

If Santa Monica truly wants to support small businesses as they claim they do, the way to do this is to support businesses like the Santa Monica Trapeze School!

Without a physical location, SMTS will not be able to share the transformational lessons achieved through flying with our students or support the community programs. The team have been working to find alternative locations in LA County to move the Trapeze School but have had no luck thus far.

The team at SMTS creates this amazing place, a place that hosts multiple pride shows a year, an AAPI heritage celebration, PE credit for approved Santa Monica Students, as well as a number of other community benefits. We need to keep circus arts and circus training in Santa Monica.

City council members, please vote to enter into Concession Agreement with Santa Monica Trapeze School for Concessionaire and Recreation Services at Clover Park.

Thank you for fighting for local circus in Santa Monica.

Thank you for your time,

Warmly,
